Alice in Wonderland by Raven Gregory

The one thing known is that her time spent in a world full of insanity left her a broken adult. However, her courageous will to survive is what ultimately saved humanity.

Now the story of Alice's visit into Wonderland is fully revealed and the truth of the terror will be told in full!

From Raven Gregory, Ralph Tedesco, and Joe Brusha, the minds behind Grimm Fairy Tales and Return To Wonderland, comes the series that Zenescope fans have been waiting for!

Follow Zenescope back down the rabbit hole and discover a world of madness like you've never seen before!

This is the tale of what REALLY happened down the rabbit hole. The artwork in this book is completely amazing!! Alice in Wonderland has always been (to me) a fairly creepy story and the art in this really brings that to light. I've never been more scared of the Cheshire Cat before - he's a seriously creepy cat!

The story is similarly paced as other graphics I've read. Fast enough to keep you interested and, since this is technically a collection of several shorter stories, there's enough hooks to keep you in.

I think with this, and many other graphics, it's the artwork and perhaps love of a classic tale told in a different, and much darker, way.

Prototype 2 by Dan Jolley

Return to the virus-infected Manhattan of Prototype in this new graphic novel bridging the blockbuster game with its highly anticipated sequel! Written by Prototype 2 game writer and comics writer Dan Jolley (JSA: The Liberty File, Firestorm,BloodHound), this volume includes three original stories, previously only available digitally, enriching the stories of the central characters of Prototype 2 and revealing secrets of the devastated NYZ! Release Date 1st August 2012 This prequel graphic novel is split into 3 separate stories. The first of which, "The Anchor", follows Alex Mercer after the events of the first Prototype game. Alex was the main character you played in Prototype, following his story of what happened to him when he awakes in a goverment morgue. And I won't spoil what the ending of the story was here. In this story, Alex travels the world trying to fit back into humanity but only finding that humans are "worse than worthless, humans are vermin". Just seeing how people treat other in every day life, showing no care for your fellow human on the street. This story which no doubt leads straight into the events of the second Prototype game which, at this date, I have still to play. The second story, "The Survivors", follows a small group of 3 people - Conrad, Marcie and a young boy called Ami Levin. We follow this group just trying to escape the red zone, which is the area most affected by the blacklight virus. Giving us an idea of the extreme measures they need to take just to survive which includes attacking the private military that are there to supposedly protect the uninfected. We follow the journey with them making it back to the green zone where no infection exists at - which point I will not spoil what happens. With these people I am not sure if the story continues into the game itself but, considering it is from the same writer of the game, I would like to hope so. The third and last story, "The Labyrinth", follows the origin of your character in Prototype 2, Sgt. James Heller. He wakes up with a stranger in some sort of prison cell where he is told people are getting experimented on, after his cell mate is removed from the cell something happens and his cell opens up. He discovers nobody seems to be around except a few of the infected, after dispatching them he finds a store room and a weapon and discovers more survivors. And when in a situation of taking the life of an unarmed scientist that had done experiments on people, he decides not to execute him and we discover it was all a test. He wakes up on a military base with no memory of what had happened and is told a sniper grazed his head with a bullet. The art design for each story is done by 3 seperate people so each one has its own style. My personal opinion is the 1st and 3rd were very well drawn. The 2nd story I wasn't as keen on, especially the writing, it was dificult to read on the e-reader. So if you have a choice and really want these little extra stories in the Prototype world I would pick up a physical copy as the digital copy, even on my PC monitor, got hard to read at some points. With that being the only negative, I found the sories were well writen and involving. I highly recommend anyone that enjoys the world of Prototype to check this out. Freakshow Volume 1 by Joe Suitor

Ape Entertainment's critically-acclaimed dark superhero epic is fully collected here for the first time!

When five refugee survivors develop horrific mutations from a devastating chemical explosion, they band together to seek revenge. But are they monsters… or heroes?

Release Date 23rd August 2012

I received this from Netgalley and was told it would just be a part of the book, not the whole thing. Unfortunately it was the beginning that had been cut out, my kindle started at 13%, so I'll admit to being overwhelmingly confused about what was happening.

Luckily for me, one of the characters decided to have a little trip down memory lane. The story seems like it could be interesting, trying to figure out the monsters from the villains, the monsters are only monsters because of something humanity done to them. From what I can gather, some scientist tried to create a superhero and ended up making some mutants instead. They, understandably pissed, want to kill said scientist.

I don't think this is the type of graphic novel I'll read, the artwork didn't do it for me. As much as the storyline interests me, I don't think I'll be reading this.

The Art of the Mass Effect Universe by Casey Hudson and Derek Watts

The Mass Effect trilogy is a groundbreaking epic that has immersed gamers in one of science fiction's richest universes. Now BioWare and Dark Horse are proud to invite fans deeper than ever into the Mass Effect saga with The Art of the Mass Effect Universe! Featuring concept art and commentary by BioWare on the games' characters, locations, vehicles, weapons, and more-including Mass Effect 3-The Art of the Mass Effect Universe is the most complete companion available to gaming's most compelling series!

Talking from my experiences in the Mass Effect universe, everything in this book fascinates me, since I have spent at least 200 hours living in all 3 games. Being able to see the thought process behind each of the races and the culture behind them, makes you realise the love that was put into the games. The book doesn't just cover the races it has concepts for the various location visited in the story from the Citadel right back to Earth in Mass Effect 3. They even make it very easy to find a particular location or person you wish to look up as the book is divided into the 3 individual games.

This being a concept art book it is very hard to describe how good the quality is. This is 186 pages of fan service giving us an insight into how Bioware were looking at the world they were building, and where things could have went with just a few different choices. This is a very specialist book, directed more to people that have played and loved the games. For a fan of the universe I would highly recommend it. And even for the aspiring artists wanting to get into Art design for gaming, a little more knowledge of how it is done in the big leagues won't hurt.

The Curse by Mike Norton

In 2009, cartoonist extraordinaire and internet sensation Mike Norton (BATTLEPUG, DOUBLE FEATURE COMICS: THE ANSWER) took the "24-Hour Comic" Challenge and created the pug-tastic comic THE CURSE over the course of a single day! He returned with sequels spawned during "24-Hour Comic" events in 2010 and 2011. Now all three tales of pirates and pugs are available in print in this new hardcover collection!

Release Date 12th September 2012

Completely hilarious graphic novel about a pug who's also a pirate - a pugrate?

Short but funny stories and the artwork, while not fantastically well done, is still good. I mean, anything's better than the crap that would come from me. I like easy to read comics and this is definitely one, pick it up and give it a read. If nothing else, you'll get a good giggle.

Charlaine Harris' Grave Sight Graphic Novel

At the age of fifteen, Harper Connelly was struck by lightning, an event that gave her the ability to find the dead and see how they died. Since then, Harper's scratched out a living selling her services to anyone with a chequebook. It's not the best life, but it beats the alternative, at least until Harper and her brother Tolliver roll into Sarne, Arkansas and find themselves embroiled in a murder mystery!

Release Date 7th June 2011

I haven't read Grave Sight in a wee while so this was a nice refresher for me. I love Harper and Tolliver and this is a great first book to the series. The artwork is good and I really like how Harper and Tolliver look.

Harper's power is completely unique and because of that not everyone trusts it or believes in it but they still hire her. I always wondered whether it was to try and debunk her or if they were always secretly wishing it to be true.

I've always enjoyed the Harper series and hope to read the rest in comic form as well. Although I am still disappointed that the series has come to an end, seemingly so Ms. Harris can focus more on the Sookie books.

If you're not a big reader of actual books then this is a great way to read the Harper series, it's a great series and well worth a look.

Dean Koontz' Frankenstein : Prodigal Son

Detectives O'Conner and Maddison delve deeper into the mysterious life of Victor Helios, trying to uncover his ultimate goal, while members of Victor's 'New Race' begin to show they are not as perfect as he assumed. Randall Six continues his quest to escape from Hands of Mercy, as Officer Harker descends further into madness. And Erika Helios discovers some of her husbands' unfinished creations. Mysteries are revealed and revenge is exacted as this horror epic reaches its apocalyptic conclusion.

Release Date 31st May 2011

I've read the books, except the last one, and I love that this series is getting adapted to a comic. I'm not actually a huge Dean Koontz fan but I really liked his take on the Frankenstein legend. The artwork is good, if a little square for my liking. I think they've done well with the imagery of Deucalion, he's big and scary looking, just like the illustator has drawn.

I'm not normally a big comic or graphic novel reader but there are a lot of books being adapted to comics. Is this the new in thing? To be fair, they'll work better than a movie adaptation, which normally upset me. At least there's no casting to be done that can ruin your perception.

I haven't read the book in a while but this had put me in the mood to start the series anew and, hopefully, get the new one while I'm at it.

Moon Called Graphic Novel Volume 1 by Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson inhabits two worlds without truly belonging to either. To the human inhabitants of Tri-Cities she's an oddity, a fiercely independent woman who repairs cars for a living. To the town's darker residents; werewolves, vampires, and fae, she's a walker, a last-of-her-kind magical being with the power to become a coyote. Mercy warily straddles the fine line dividing our everyday world from that darker dimension ... until a boy, mauled by vicious werewolves and running for his life, appears at her door. Now her two worlds are about to collide! Outnumbered and out-muscled, can Mercy possibly save the boy ... or even herself?

I've read and loved all the Mercy books so far, click here for Part One and Part 2, and also River Marked. So I jumped at the chance to read the graphic novel of Moon Called.

I remember reading about it happening but then it kind of slipped my mind. I think the series is well underway but I read Volume 1 which is Issues 1 through 4. It's obviously not the exact same storyline as the book, the same as with film adaptations it obviously had to be cut down but the main parts are there and that's the important thing.

The artwork is great in it. Obviously I had the moments of "That's not what they looked like to me at all!", but everyone will have those moments, I'm sure. There's no way, if you've read the books, you'll agree with every image but the comics themselves are fun and well worth a read ..... with or without the pre-reading of the actual book.
